Rule summary

  • Dental Professionals only: This subreddit is for dental professionals only. Any posts or comments by non-professionals may be removed. If you are seeking help with a dental problem, please consider posting to r/askdentists. If you are a dental professional and are interested in a flair, please message the mods.
  • No patient personal stories, questions, or requests for dental advice.: Requests for dental advice and stories should be posted on r/askdentists. Do not solicit dental advice or share anecdotes on this subreddit. This subreddit is a community for dental professionals only. You will be banned for breaking this rule.
  • No promotions, advertisements, surveys, or petitions: Surveys and polls are not allowed. Anything that falls under market research will be removed. If it's market research about an AI answering service, straight to jail. Promotional posts for websites, blogs, products are not allowed and are grounds for immediate ban.
  • No pre-dental or dental school questions.: Questions relating to admissions to dental school, applying for credentials in another country, courses, and homework should be asked on r/dentalschool or r/predental. This includes questions regarding interest in the profession and whether entering the field is "worth it."
  • No spam.: Posts that are repetitive or unrelated to the sub's purpose will be removed. Inaccurate or false information will be removed.
  • No financial questions.: This is not a finance sub. We don't want the sub to be flooded by questions about pay, production, loans, etc. Use the search tab for past posts or post your question for discussion at r/oralprofessionals.
  • Protect patient confidentiality.: Posting protected health information may result in a ban. Remove patient-identifiable information before posting cases for discussion.
  • Don’t be an asshole: Treat other posters with respect. No name calling or generalizations. No targeting of users.

Works well

  • A dental professional sharing an interesting clinical case with all patient-identifying information removed and asking colleagues for their approach
  • A working dentist starting a discussion about a technique or material based on real experience, with no links to any product
  • A dental professional asking peers about a clinical workflow challenge, framed as genuine discussion rather than a setup for a product pitch

Avoid

  • Posting any link to your product, website, blog, or company page
  • Running a survey, poll, or market research question of any kind
  • Posting if you are not a dental professional yourself
  • Sharing patient-identifiable information in clinical case photos or descriptions
  • Asking about dental school admissions, career change, or whether dentistry is worth it
  • Discussing pay, production, loans, or any financial topic

What r/Dentistry Is For

This is a closed room for dental professionals to talk about dentistry among themselves. The public description says it covers discussions and links of interest for dental professionals on all things dentistry. Patients with questions or stories are told to go to r/askdentists instead. Only dental professionals are welcome, and the mods offer flair if you message them to confirm your credentials.

Rules That Matter Before Posting

The rule that ends most marketing attempts is 'No promotions, advertisements, surveys, or petitions'. It bans promotional posts for websites, blogs, and products outright and says they are grounds for an immediate ban. 'No spam' covers anything repetitive or unrelated to the subreddit's purpose. 'Dental Professionals only' means non-professionals may have posts or comments removed. 'No patient personal stories, questions, or requests for dental advice' and 'No pre-dental or dental school questions' and 'No financial questions' each push specific topics to other subreddits. 'Protect patient confidentiality' requires removing patient-identifiable information before posting cases. 'Don't be an asshole' rounds it out with a basic respect standard.

What To Post

Honest answer, there is almost no room for marketing here. The community bans promotions explicitly and threatens an immediate ban for them. If you are a dental professional yourself, the only opening is to participate as a peer. Share clinical cases with all patient-identifying information stripped out, ask genuine questions about techniques or materials, and join discussions as a working dentist. Build credibility over time through real contributions. Do not link to your product, your blog, or your company. If your thing is relevant, other dentists may ask you about it in the comments, but you cannot lead with it. If you are not a dental professional, there is no safe path to post here.

What To Avoid

Do not post a link to your website, blog, product, or service. Do not run a survey, poll, or any market research. The rules mention an AI answering service as something that goes straight to jail, so anything AI-related tied to dental practices is a flashpoint. Do not post as a non-professional. Do not ask patient advice questions or share patient stories. Do not ask about dental school admissions, credentials in another country, or whether the field is worth entering. Do not discuss pay, production, loans, or other financial topics. Do not include any patient-identifiable information in case posts. Do not be rude or target other users.
