Rule summary

  • Be civil!: Express yourself, but be civil. This includes hate speech, personal attacks, excessive trolling, etc. Harassment will result in a ban.
  • No illegal activity!: Don't post looking to participate in ANY sort of illegal activity. This includes attempting to source medicinal marijuana, cartridges, etc anywhere aside from a licensed establishment.
  • Use the appropiate resources on r/orlando.: Please use the search bar/sidebar and stickied threads before asking a question. This includes the Wikis! Also use the "Where in Orlando" Wednesday post for weekly recommendations. We'll be adding this info to the Wikis over time. There are plenty of relevant posts that will most likely answer your question. A good post with great things to do, eat, go, etc would be our, [Best of r/Orlando 2024.](https://www.reddit.com/r/orlando/wiki/best-of-2024/)
  • No spamming. No solicitation (including buying or selling tickets). No surveys.: Don't spam! No solicitation (including buying or selling tickets). No surveys. Posts on r/Orlando should be related to Orlando in some way.
  • That boom?: That "boom" you heard was probably something headed to/from space, thunder, or fireworks from the theme parks. All 3 are completely normal in Central Florida.
  • No linking to donation sites.: This includes sites like GoFundMe.
  • No editorialized post titles.: Articles linked as a post/thread must either have the title be the title of the article or similar.
  • Follow the Reddit Content Policy!: https://www.redditinc.com/policies/content-policy
  • No Misinformation or Conspiracy Theories: Misinformation and conspiracy theories are not allowed, including vaccine falsehoods and COVID denialism. Debating is welcome, but stating false statements and opinions as fact is not allowed. This will be enforced at the discretion of the moderation team.
  • Missing Persons.: Missing persons posts must include the official poster released by the appropriate law enforcement agency. We do this to prevent cases of stalking or harassment.
  • State Politics: Posts about state politics are only permitted if they directly related to Orlando. Please see [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/orlando/comments/11zpi7q/final_update_on_state_politics_in_rorlando/) for a detailed description of this rule. If your post is removed and you feel that it was relevant enough to Orlando, you can message the moderators with and explanation as to how your post relates to Orlando. If approved, that explanation will be pinned and the post will be reinstated.
  • Mod Discretion: Mods reserve the right to remove posts at their discretion
  • Links to Paywalled/Login Sites: Links to paywalled sites, or sites that require a login to view content, are not allowed. Screenshots of these sites are still allowed provided that they meet the other posting criteria and they have not been altered (with the exception of cropping).

Works well

  • A genuinely useful Orlando guide, like your personal list of things to do, eat, or go in the city, written as a contribution rather than a pitch.
  • Answering newcomer questions in the “Where in Orlando” Wednesday thread with real local knowledge, which builds your reputation without any promotion.
  • Sharing an Orlando news article with its original title, from a site that is not paywalled or login required.
  • Posting an unaltered screenshot of a paywalled article about Orlando, with a title that matches the article, since the rules allow screenshots when links are not allowed.
  • Helping people in comment threads about traffic, weather, theme park noise, or neighborhood questions, which is the kind of everyday participation that earns standing in a city subreddit.

Avoid

  • Posting a link to your product, service, or landing page, because “No spamming. No solicitation (including buying or selling tickets). No surveys.” treats promotion as grounds for removal.
  • Running a survey or asking people to fill out a questionnaire about your startup idea, which the same rule bans outright.
  • Dropping a GoFundMe or any donation link, banned by “No linking to donation sites.”
  • Linking an article behind a paywall or a login wall instead of posting an unaltered screenshot, which “Links to Paywalled/Login Sites” removes.
  • Writing your own clickbait headline over a linked article, which “No editorialized post titles.” catches.
  • Asking a question that is already answered in the wiki, the sidebar, or a past thread, which “Use the appropiate resources on r/orlando.” is meant to stop before you post it at all, and the stickied “Where in Orlando” Wednesday post is the right home for recommendation requests rather than a standalone post on other days.

What r/orlando Is For

This is the subreddit for Orlando, Florida, and the description calls it the proud subreddit of the city. People here talk about life in Orlando, ask for local recommendations, share news and things to do, eat, or go, and help each other navigate the city. The rules make it clear the community expects posts to be related to Orlando in some way, and it has built dedicated resources for the most common needs, like wikis and a weekly Wednesday post for recommendations. It is a general local community, not a business or startup space, so the people posting are residents, newcomers, and visitors, not founders hunting for customers.

Rules That Matter Before Posting

The rule that decides everything for a founder is “No spamming. No solicitation (including buying or selling tickets). No surveys.”, which bans promotion, selling, and survey posts in one sweep. “Use the appropiate resources on r/orlando.” matters because it pushes questions into the search bar, the wikis, and the Wednesday recommendations thread instead of new posts. “Links to Paywalled/Login Sites” blocks any link behind a paywall or login, though unaltered screenshots are still allowed. “No linking to donation sites.” rules out GoFundMe style links. “No editorialized post titles.” means a linked article keeps its own title or something very close to it. “Be civil!” sets the tone bar, and “No Misinformation or Conspiracy Theories” means you cannot state opinions as fact. “State Politics” requires moderator approval for state politics posts, and “Mod Discretion” is the catch all that lets moderators remove anything they judge unfit.

What To Post

The honest answer is that this is not a place to promote anything, so the best marketing adjacent move is to be a genuinely useful local. Share a well written guide to something Orlando specific, like a roundup of things to do, eat, or go, which the rules themselves point to as the kind of post the community values. Answer questions from newcomers and visitors with real local knowledge, especially in the Wednesday recommendations thread where those questions belong. If you link an article, keep the title as the article title or very close to it, and make sure it is not behind a paywall or login. If you have something useful behind a paywall, post a clean screenshot instead. Before posting anything, search the wiki, the sidebar, and past posts to make sure you are not duplicating an answered question.

What To Avoid

The fastest way to get removed is to treat this like a marketing channel. Do not post your product, your service, your ticket sales, or your survey, because the no spamming and solicitation rule covers all of it. Do not ask a question that the wiki or a past thread already answers, because the community explicitly asks you to search first. Do not link anything behind a paywall or a login, and do not slap your own headline on a linked article. Do not post donation links, misinformation, or conspiracy theories, and do not post about state politics unless it directly relates to Orlando and you are ready for moderator review. And keep it civil, because harassment leads to a ban. Remember that mod discretion exists, so even a technically allowed post can go if it feels off for the room.

Common questions about r/orlando

Can I promote my product or company here?

No. “No spamming. No solicitation (including buying or selling tickets). No surveys.” covers promotion, so a post about your product or company is not a safe play here.

Can I run a survey to gather feedback from locals?

No. Surveys are named in the no solicitation rule, so asking for research responses will get the post removed.

Can I share an Orlando news article?

Yes, as long as it is genuinely about Orlando, the title matches the article, and the site is not paywalled or login required.

Can I link to my own blog post about Orlando?

Yes, if the site is not paywalled or login required, and if the title matches the article title or is close to it.

Where do I ask for restaurant or activity recommendations?

Yes, and the rules point you there directly. The “Where in Orlando” Wednesday post is the designated place for weekly recommendations.
