Rule summary

  • Keep It Civil: We are all adults here. We must foster a healthy environment for all to ask questions and learn. There are no stupid questions here. Disagreements will and should happen, but as long as everyone handles it respectfully and openly, there shouldn't be any problem.
  • Posts Must Be Related To SEO: Posts must be related to search engine optimization, even just adjacent. For example if the entire post is around PPC, there are better subs for your post.
  • No Self-Promotion/Backlinks: If you're here to just link people to your content or sell your or your agencies services, your contribution is not welcome.
  • No Harassment/Toxicity: Keep discussions respectful and civil. Do not harass fellow users. This includes threats, emailing, DM'ing, Stalking, Racist Comments, Rude Comments, etc... If you have a problem with someone, please report it to the mod team.
  • No Low Effort Posts: Posts that are clearly AI written, contain little valuable information or do not promote discussion within the subreddit may be removed. (Primarily related to posts but may apply to comments if comment is AI written)
  • No “GEO”: This topic is not related to local SEO.
  • No GenAI Posts or Comments: Your posts or comments cannot be generated by a GenAI system or read like they are. All suspected bot posts / comments will be removed and users could be banned.
  • Posts Must Promote Discussion: Posts must promote meaningful discussion related to Local SEO.

Works well

  • A detailed case study about improving a local business ranking, shared without any links
  • A specific question about handling a Google Business Profile suspension
  • A hands-on tip about local citation building that you learned from real experience
  • A discussion about how a recent Google local algorithm change affected your work

Avoid

  • Linking to your own blog, website, or agency landing page
  • Naming your agency or pitching your services in a post or comment
  • Using generative AI to write your post or comment
  • Posting about GEO as a topic
  • Posting purely about PPC with no local SEO angle
  • Posting low effort content with little valuable information

What r/localseo Is For

This community is for local SEO news, tips, help, and case studies. People who post here are SEO practitioners, agency owners, and business owners working on local search visibility. The focus is specifically on local SEO, not general search marketing or paid ads.

Rules That Matter Before Posting

Several rules decide whether a marketing-adjacent post survives. No Self-Promotion/Backlinks is the big one, because it bans linking to your own content or selling your services. Posts Must Be Related To SEO keeps the room on topic. No GEO specifically excludes generative engine optimization from this community. No GenAI Posts or Comments means anything that looks AI-written gets removed. No Low Effort Posts and Posts Must Promote Discussion together mean your post needs real substance and a reason for people to talk. Keep It Civil and No Harassment/Toxicity set the tone for how you interact.

What To Post

Write a post that shares a genuine local SEO experience or question, written in your own words. A case study about a local business ranking improvement, with no links and no agency pitch, could start a good conversation. A specific question about Google Business Profile optimization, local link building, or review management could work well if it is detailed enough to invite real discussion. The key is that you are contributing to the community's knowledge, not extracting attention from it.

What To Avoid

Do not link to your own website or blog. Do not mention your agency or offer your services. Do not use generative AI to write your posts or comments. Do not post about GEO, as the community explicitly excludes that topic. Do not post about PPC unless it directly ties to local SEO. Do not post low effort content or anything that does not give people something to discuss.
