Is a blank aged account better than a used one?
A blank one has no history for a mod to read, which helps. It also has no karma, so it clears age minimums and little else. It still changed hands, and the seller's email question is the same.
What an aged Reddit account really gets you, why age alone rarely clears a subreddit's minimums, what matters more, and what a mod sees on one.

An aged Reddit account sells you one thing: a date. On G2G they are even grouped by the year they were made.
That date clears one kind of check. A subreddit can run several more.
Reddit's User Agreement also doesn't allow selling or transferring an account without its written approval, so an aged account bought from a stranger starts outside the rules. How to buy a Reddit account and what can go wrong covers that part.
Here is what age gets you, what matters more and what I would do instead, in 4 parts, with 3 things you can copy.
Save this. Read it before you pay extra for an old date.
Usually not. Age helps with one check, the account age minimum, but subreddits also look at karma, karma earned inside that subreddit, a verified email and the account's history. An aged account brings someone else's history, often lopsided karma and an email you may not control. Mods can read all of it. If you need an account that will speak for your product, make one today and warm it up. Its age will grow on its own.
It gets you past age checks. AutoModerator can compare an account's age with a number the mods choose, in anything from minutes to years, and Reddit's Poster Eligibility Guide shows when an account fails an age rule. That is the whole benefit. The other checks a subreddit can run look at things a date doesn't give you.
Reddit's full AutoModerator documentation lists what a subreddit's rules can check about an author: total, post and comment karma, karma earned in that subreddit, account age, a verified email or phone, and a quality score Reddit gives every account. The Poster Eligibility Guide checks karma, age and a verified email when you try to post.
Here is how an aged account does against each one. Copy it.
| What a subreddit can check | Does an aged account bring it? |
|---|---|
| Account age | Yes, that is what you paid for |
| Total karma | Only if the listing says so, and only the number |
| Comment karma | Not unless the listing says so |
| Karma in your target subreddit | No. It starts at zero there |
| A verified email or phone | The seller's, or none, until you change it |
| Reddit's quality score | Whatever the old history earned it |
| Your history in that subreddit | No |
The fourth row is the one people miss. A subreddit can check only the karma you earned inside it, in comments, posts or both. A ten-year-old account that never posted there has none. Community karma is built one room at a time, and age doesn't skip that.
The third row is next. Rankhog's own warm-up treats an account as established at 50 total karma with at least 20 of it from comments. The featured "karma 100+" offer on G2G that I looked at promised post karma, not comment karma.
That is why I build accounts slowly instead. Rankhog warms up accounts you own, slowly, in your own browser.
The history, the karma split, any past removals or bans, and who still controls the account. History is what mods read. The karma split decides which minimums you pass. Past bans stay with the account. And an old email or open session lets the old owner back in. A date tells you none of this.
Here is what I would check on any aged account before trusting it. Copy it.
Items 5 and 6 come from Reddit's own advice on hacked or compromised accounts, which also names sharing accounts as a common way they get compromised.
To see which published minimums the account clears today, run it through Rankhog's free Reddit karma checker. It reads the public profile and shows the karma split, the age and the gates it clears.
A long silence, then a burst of activity in a new topic and a new voice. When you post or comment in a subreddit, its mods can see your full profile history for 28 days, even the parts you hid. So the gap, the old topics and the sudden change are all on screen when a mod decides whether to trust your post.
That 28-day rule is on Reddit's profile settings page. Profile curation hides chosen subreddits from casual visitors. It doesn't hide them from the mods of a room you just posted in.
Here is what an aged account with a gap tends to look like. Check any account you are thinking of buying against it.
None of these is against the rules on its own. Together they read like a bought account, and mods have seen plenty.
An old account that someone actually used, slowly, for years, looks different. The best way to get one of those is to start one.
For a founder who needs an account to speak for a product, no. You pay for a date, inherit a history, and still have to earn karma in every room you care about. An account you make today costs nothing, is yours from the first day, and gets older on its own. Rankhog gives a brand new account a 28-day warm-up, and that time builds a history you can stand behind.
If you already bought one, don't throw it away. Treat it like a new account with an odd past.
How to warm up a Reddit account bought on G2G has the day-one table and a 21-day plan, and it works for an aged account from any seller. How to buy a Reddit account on G2G covers what to check before you pay, if you haven't yet.
If you are starting fresh, how to warm up a Reddit account is the day-by-day plan.
If you have an old account you made yourself and forgot about, you have the good kind of aged account. Log in, secure it and warm it up.
If you need to post this week, an aged account won't fix that. The karma in your target subreddit still starts at zero.
Today, in this order:
Check. Wait. Comment. Verify. Start.
Thanks for reading. If you would rather have an account that is yours from day one, that is the job I built Rankhog for. Rankhog warms up accounts you own, slowly, in your own browser.
Pick the subreddit and paste your draft. The free post checker compares it with the published rules and suggests edits before you post.

Only by waiting. Age counts from the day the account was made, so the best time to make one is today. Use it lightly while it ages and it will have a real history by the time you need it.
Reddit doesn't publish how it decides, so I can't promise that. Age doesn't protect an account that behaves like spam. Links in many places, copied comments and bursts of activity look the same on an old account as on a new one.
The year matters less than you'd think. AutoModerator measures age in anything from minutes to years, and each subreddit picks its own number. What the account did since that year matters more.
