Here is the plan I would hand a founder who asks me where to start with Reddit SEO.
It is four weeks long. Most days take half an hour. By day 30 you know which threads your buyers read, which rooms will have you, and whether any of it moved.
This is the whole plan, in 4 weeks, with 5 things you can copy. Save it, and open it on day one.
Reddit SEO for founders comes down to answering buyer questions inside Reddit threads that already rank on Google and show up in ChatGPT. In week one, find those threads. In week two, get your account and your rooms ready. In week three, answer them. In week four, post once, then check what ranks and what stayed up. Keep a sheet with every permalink so day 30 has real numbers in it.
Start from searches, not subreddits. The threads Google already ranks are the job.
Get the account ready before anything that matters goes out.
Replies come before posts. A reply in a ranking thread starts on page one.
Mention your product only when asked and allowed, and say you work on it.
Track every thread by its permalink, or day 30 is a guess.
If you want the background first, why Google and ChatGPT lean on Reddit and where a thread can rank, read the Reddit SEO guide. This post is the calendar.
Find the Reddit threads that show up when your buyers search. List the questions they type, search each one on Google with the word reddit, and save every thread on page one. Ask ChatGPT the same questions and save the Reddit threads it cites. That list is your target for the month.
Day 1. Write ten questions your buyers type when they have the problem you solve. Use their words, not yours. Your support inbox and sales calls are full of them.
Here are the five kinds I always include. Copy them and fill them in.
best [tool type] for [their situation]
[competitor] alternative
how do you [task] without [cost or hire]
[competitor A] vs [competitor B]
why does [the problem] keep happening
Day 2. Search each question on Google in a private window, with the word reddit at the end. Save every reddit.com link on page one. Search again without the word reddit and note which threads still show up. Those are the ones ranking on their own.
Day 3. Ask ChatGPT the same ten questions with search on. Open the sources under each answer and save any Reddit thread. A thread that shows up on Google and in ChatGPT goes to the top of your list.
Day 4. Open every saved thread. Is it still open for comments? Is the top answer weak, old or missing something you know? Mark each one "answer", "watch" or "skip".
Day 5. Start your tracking sheet. One row per thread. Copy this header into a spreadsheet.
date,subreddit,thread title,permalink,target search,google position,in forums box,cited by chatgpt,still up,notes
By the end of the week you should have ten to thirty threads and a short list of the subreddits they live in.
Make sure the account can post in the rooms you found, and learn each room's rules. Most subreddits filter accounts below some karma or age, often without saying the number. A reply from an account that is too new gets removed quietly, so this week saves the next two.
Room:
Karma or age gate, if published:
Links allowed? Where?
Self-promotion rule, in their words:
Weekly promotion thread? Which day?
What the top posts this month have in common:
Days 10 to 12. Comment like a normal person in those rooms. No product, no links. Answer a question you know. How to get karma on Reddit has more ways to do this without farming. Commenting builds community karma, which some rooms count on its own. r/GrowthHacking, for one, asks for 100 karma earned in the room before you share your own product, as of the rules Rankhog's guides checked on 29 September 2026.
Days 13 and 14. Rest. Seriously. A steady account looks better than a busy one.
Reply to the threads marked "answer", two or three a day, in the rooms you checked. Lead with a full answer someone could use without clicking anything. Mention your product only if the person asked for tools and the room allows it, and say you work on it. Then log the permalink.
Here is the reply shape I use. Copy it.
[One sentence that answers the question, plain enough to quote.]
[What you saw in your own work, with one real number or name.]
[How to do it without any tool, in two or three steps.]
[Only if asked and allowed:] A few that do this: [option], [option], and [your product], which I work on, so weigh that.
The first line matters most. It is the sentence a summary lifts, and the one a skimmer reads. The Reddit SEO guide has more on why.
Before each reply goes out, run the draft through the free Reddit post checker. It compares your text with the room's published rules. It can't see private AutoModerator settings, so a pass is a good sign, not a guarantee.
Every day this week:
Pick two or three threads from your sheet.
Write the reply with the shape above.
Check it.
Post it.
Add the permalink to your sheet.
Come back the next day and answer anyone who replied.
That last step is the one founders skip. A reply that starts a conversation stays near the top of the thread. A reply nobody answers sinks.
Post one thread of your own, in one room whose rules allow it, as a question or a lesson. Then spend the last days checking every permalink: still up, where it ranks, whether it sits in the Discussions and forums box, whether ChatGPT cites it. That check is your result for the month.
Day 22. Write one post. Use a title the way a buyer would search it. The guide's title shapes are a good start. Make the body a real lesson from your work, with numbers you can stand behind. No link in the post. If someone asks, answer in the comments.
Day 23. Stay with the post for the first hours and answer every comment.
Days 24 to 27. Keep replying to two threads a day from your sheet.
Day 28. Open every permalink in a private window and fill in the sheet. Is the reply still there? Search the target question. Where is the thread now?
Day 29. Open Google Search Console. In the Performance report, filter for queries that contain your brand name and compare with the month before. Ask your last month's signups where they heard about you.
Day 30. Answer these four questions in writing. Copy them.
Which rooms kept my replies up?
Which threads rank, and where?
Did brand searches move at all?
Did anyone sign up and say Reddit?
If two rooms kept everything up and one removed everything, drop that one. If a thread ranks well, go back and add a better answer to it.
It doesn't promise a ranking. You choose threads that already rank, so you start on page one, but a thread can drop.
It doesn't promise ChatGPT will cite you. Semrush saw ChatGPT's share of answers citing Reddit fall from close to 60% to around 10% between August and mid September 2025 (Semrush, November 2025). Those numbers move.
I don't have a signup rate from this plan that I would publish. It depends too much on your product and your rooms.
Not on day one. Most rooms filter new, low karma accounts, so your first replies vanish. Spend the first week or two on normal comments in rooms you like, then start the plan. The warm-up post covers how.
How many hours a week does this plan take?
About three. Thirty minutes most weekdays, plus one longer session at the start of the month to find threads and one at the end to check them.
Should I post my own threads or only reply?
Reply first. A reply in a thread that already ranks starts on page one. Post your own thread in week four, once, in a room whose rules allow it, as a question or a lesson.
What if none of my buyer questions have Reddit threads on Google?
Then Reddit SEO is a weak bet for you right now. Try the same searches in ChatGPT and look at the sources. If Reddit is missing there too, spend your time on your own site.
When do I mention my product?
Only when someone asks for a tool, the room allows it, and your product fits. Say you work on it in the same sentence. Most of your replies in the first month shouldn't mention it at all.
