Rule summary

  • Be friendly: Don’t be a jerk. We get plenty enough of that everywhere else. Keep this subreddit reasonable.
  • Posts must be about the GTA: Keep on theme, here!
  • Post about things in restaurants or food facilities: Food must be either a product, dish served by restaurant, or any other food facility. All homemade cooking posts belong in r/Food or r/Cooking
  • Don't hate on food/experiences: Especially if it’s to drag a restaurant down. Toxic and excessive dogpiling is unnecessary. This includes discussions on tipping and complaints best resolved by management.
  • Use Search before posting: Use the subreddit search before posting a common question or asking for a recommendation. Requests that do not show you've searched first or lacking specificity (location, budget, group, dietary restrictions/preferences/etc) will be removed.
  • Be transparent if you work for a brand/restaurant: You’re welcome to post/recommend in existing threads as long as you are clear about your affiliation. Owners or employees, do NOT create posts promoting your business/product.
  • No advertising/promotion/referral links: Contains referral links
  • Repost Bot / Spam: Sometimes bots repost old images here for karma, report them so we can take out the trash
  • Apps / Surveys / Market Research: No posts for apps, surveys or market research posts.

Works well

  • A photo post showcasing a specific dish from a local restaurant, accompanied by a description of the place and where the food originated.
  • A detailed recommendation posted in an existing thread, where the founder clearly states their affiliation with the restaurant they are recommending.
  • A helpful post that asks for a recommendation but includes all necessary details like neighborhood, group size, and dietary restrictions, proving you have used the search function first.

Avoid

  • Posting homemade cooking meals, because this community is only for food facilities and restaurants.
  • Making vague requests for recommendations without providing specific details like location, budget, or dietary needs.
  • Using referral links or any form of direct advertising or promotion.
  • Posting negative comments or bashing establishments, especially if you have not visited the place.
  • Creating posts that are purely promotional for your business without first recommending it in an existing discussion thread.
  • Posting surveys or market research content.
