  • Treat Everyone Like Your Mum: We’re here to prop up and encourage our fellow hosts, especially ones that are new and still finding their footing. Remember to treat new hosts and those interested in hosting with the same level of respect you would a veteran with 30 listings. Comments should be respectful and constructive. This one is simple: be kind.
  • New acct, low karma, AI: Your post is being removed for one or several of these reasons. Account is too new, been dormant too long, lack of karma and/or previous participation here and use of excessive AI. We prefer human conversations on this subreddit.
  • Must Be A Current, Former, or Aspiring Host: Posts and comments, unless otherwise specified, should be from hosts that are either, actively listing on airbnb, interested in becoming a new host or a former host. If you are a guest, we recommend you check out /r/airbnb instead. If you are a host asking about your experience as a GUEST you need to post or r/airbnb.
  • Moderator Discretion: Posts are at the discretion of the moderators. If we do not believe it to be interesting, or think it is spam, we will remove it. If it is an obvious attempt to antagonize or just plain bash Airbnb and hosting, you’re in the wrong place. If you repeatedly exhibit this behavior you will be banned.
  • Political discussions do not belong here: This is a place for Airbnb hosts to connect and talk about STRs. Political comments should be taken to the appropriate political subs elsewhere.
  • No Spam, Low Quality Posts or Surveys: Any links to blogs or services must present interesting content that is not redundant. We do not need to know what great AI solution you have come up with to automate hosting. Titles should be clear with no click bait. We should not have to give you a YouTube view to understand the context of your post. Additionally, our community base are not your lab rats. No research studies or surveys. NOTE: linking to your airbnb listing and asking for feedback is both allowed and encouraged.
  • No 'Gaming the System': Posts and comments that try to "game the system" will be removed. Discussions on morality and questions of ethics are always encouraged, but specific guides on how to 'cheat' airbnb's platform to gain an advantage will not be tolerated.
  • Post flair optional: Posts no longer require flair attached to them. Flair in this subreddit is assigned by mods at either your request or based on your commenting. Please message a mod if you think there's something missing.
  • No Identifiable Guest Information: While we don't recommend sharing personal information about your listing, it's up to your own discretion to do so. Your guests, however, expect a level of privacy and professionalism from you. Do NOT post any information that can be used to identify who they are or linked back to them. Screenshots of hilariously surreal messages? Totally cool - but properly redact their names and photos.
  • Self-promotion: No self-promotion, “I’m building a tool,” then dropping a link. This is a sub for hosts to discuss hosting.

Works well

  • Sharing a detailed story about a specific challenge you faced with a listing and how you overcame it, framed as a discussion for other hosts.
  • Posting a curated list of resources that you found genuinely helpful for managing a large number of listings, ensuring the content is interesting and not just a list of links.
  • Asking a thoughtful question about a specific hosting scenario, like how other hosts manage unexpected maintenance issues, which invites a discussion.
  • Sharing a screenshot of a humorous or insightful guest message, but you must properly redact all names and photos before posting it.

Avoid

  • Posting any self-promotion, especially not using the phrase I am building a tool.
  • Using clickbait in titles or writing posts that are redundant and lack interesting content.
  • Sharing any personal information or identifiable photos of your guests.
  • Attempting to 'game the system' or providing guides on how to cheat the platform.
  • Submitting posts that are AI generated if you have a new account or low karma.
  • Bringing up political discussions which are not welcome here.

This community is for people who are hosting on airbnb, or who have hosted before, or who are hoping to start hosting. It is a place to share ideas, experiences, and resources related to hosting. It is not a place to promote or sell things, whether those things are products, services, or AI sales pitches.

Rules That Matter Before Posting

The rules that truly matter for marketing are “No Spam, Low Quality Posts or Surveys”, which states that links must be interesting and not redundant. Also, “No Self-promotion” is a hard line against dropping links to your own services. Furthermore, “New acct, low karma, AI” means you need to establish yourself as a human member before trying to post anything.

What To Post

A good post here comes from a place of genuine experience or helpful resource sharing. Instead of selling something, share a lesson you learned while hosting or a resource that genuinely helped you improve your hosting business. Your content must be interesting and not redundant. If you are sharing a personal experience, make sure it is framed as a discussion point for other hosts to learn from, not as a sales pitch for your own offering.

What To Avoid

You must avoid any kind of self-promotion, especially the kind where you announce you are building a tool and then drop a link. You should also avoid making posts that are low quality or spam. Do not post surveys or research requests. Another big thing to avoid is sharing any identifiable guest information. Finally, keep your discussions focused on hosting and do not bring up political topics.
