- Search the Internet, this subreddit and our wiki before posting: Search the internet, search the sub and check the wiki for commonly asked and answered questions. We aren't Google. Do not use this subreddit as a request forum. We are not going to help you find or exchange data, or find a deleted Youtube video. You need to do that yourself. If you have some data to request or share, you can visit r/DHExchange. This rule includes generic questions to the community like "What do you hoard?", "Download Deleted Youtube Video" & duplicate posts.
- Keep it about datahoarding: Stay on topic. Do not bring up politics, basic tech support, or other things not related to datahoarding. This includes crystal ball predictions.
- Be excellent to each other: Overly insulting or crass comments will be removed. Racism, sexism, or any other form of bigotry will not be tolerated. Following others around reddit to harass them will not be tolerated. Shaming/harassing others for the type of data that they hoard will not be tolerated (instant mod discretion ban). "Gatekeeping" will not be tolerated.
- No memes or 'look at this old storage medium / Connection speed / Purchase': r/DataHoarder is not 'look at my connection speed' or "look at this Amazon purchase" or "Look at this old HDD" or "look at how many hard drives are showing up in my system". - We are not your personal archival army: Basic "archive this for me" posts are not appropriate here. You may request projects that have a very large possibility of becoming lost/destroyed, such as Sci-Hub, organizations that are in peril of Government shutdown, or an active crisis that should be archived. Requested projects should be meaningful to others, not just yourself.
- r/techsupport exists.: r/Datahoarder is not a sub for tech support r/techsupport is for posts which could have been a google search, e.g. a post with CrystalDiskInfo screenshots with the title "is my drive ok?". Literally every question about SMART status. Audio recordings of "is this click noise normal?" More technical questions are allowed, e.g. "what is the optimal ZFS configuration of a 24 disk array" or "how else can i automate the archiving of this [thing]"
