Can I offer a discount code for my robotics tool to team members here?
No. The rules ban donation links, crowdfunding links, and selling things through the site, so a discount code counts as a sales pitch.

r/FRC is Reddit's home for the FIRST Robotics Competition, a community where people talk about that program and other FIRST programs. The people here are high school students on competition teams, their mentors and coaches, and alumni who stick around because the program mattered to them. The rules tell you a lot about who they are. There is a youth protection rule banning one on one communication between adults and students, which tells you this is one of the few subreddits where minors are the main audience. The rules also ban crowdfunding links, sales, and politics, which tells you the moderators want this space kept clean for the teams themselves. Read it as a community of teams helping teams, not a marketplace.
Five rules decide whether a post survives here, and every one of them matters if you are posting as a founder. “Be respectful and appropriate” sets the tone, asking you to be kind and represent yourself professionally. “Posts must be directly related to FRC/FIRST” is the one that will trip up most marketers, because anything with no direct or tangential relation to the competition or FIRST programs is not allowed. “No donation links, sales, or asking for cash” bans crowdfunding links, selling things through the site, and asking for funds, so this is not a place to pitch. “No political content” removes discussion of an inherently political nature with no relation to FRC or FIRST. Finally, “Do not solicit DMs or personal info” follows FIRST's youth protection policy and bans one on one communication between students and adults, along with sharing names, emails, phone numbers, or Discord usernames.
A good post here is one that a team member, mentor, or mentor-adjacent adult would find genuinely useful for the competition. If you have built something relevant to robotics teams, the respectful path is to share what you learned or what you made in a way that helps teams, framed entirely around FRC. Ask real questions about the competition, answer questions from students and mentors, and share lessons from your own work only when they connect to FRC. If you mention a tool you built, do it inside a post that stands on its own as useful to the community, and never ask anyone for money, never link a crowdfunding page, and never move the conversation to DMs with a student.
The fastest way to get removed is to treat this like a marketing channel. Sales posts, crowdfunding links, and donation asks are all prohibited. Off topic posts with no relation to FRC or FIRST get removed, so a generic post about your startup or your product does not belong here. Political content is out. Asking students for DMs or for any personal information like emails, phone numbers, or Discord usernames is out, and that one exists to protect minors. And the baseline rule applies to everything you write, so rude, NSFW, discriminatory, or attacking posts and comments are not allowed.

No. The rules ban donation links, crowdfunding links, and selling things through the site, so a discount code counts as a sales pitch.
Only if the post itself is directly about FRC or FIRST. A build story with a brief mention of what you used can work, a product showcase cannot.
No. The community description says it is Reddit's home for the FIRST Robotics Competition, so general startup or marketing topics are off topic.
No. The youth protection rule bans one on one communication between students and adults, so keep everything in the open thread and never ask for contact details.
