New: warm up Reddit accounts. You own them.
Rankhog

Desktop setup

Connect your Reddit account to Rankhog

Rankhog works from a small app on your computer. The app opens a normal Reddit browser that only you control. You log in to Reddit there, and Rankhog can do the work you approve.

You never send your Reddit password to Rankhog.

The short version

One computer. One Reddit account. Your normal internet. No VPN.

What you need before you start

  • A computer you use every day. A laptop is fine.
  • Your normal internet at home or at the office. Turn any VPN off.
  • A Reddit account you can log in to with an email and a password.

If you only log in to Reddit with Google today, add a password first. In Reddit, open Settings, then Account, then add an email and a password. That way of logging in works best inside the app.

Get the app

Pick the one that matches your computer.

macOS

This looks like your computer

One file to open. Drag Rankhog into your Applications folder. It updates itself.

Download for macOS

Windows

This looks like your computer

An installer you run. It sets everything up and updates itself.

Download for Windows

Linux

This looks like your computer

A zip file. Unzip it, then run the Rankhog file inside. Updates are manual for now.

Download for Linux

Rankhog runs on a computer, not on a phone. A phone app is not ready yet.

Set it up in three steps

  1. 1

    Get the app

Download the file above and install it. Then open Rankhog. The first screen tells you what to do next.

Rankhog runs on a computer, not on a phone. A phone app is not ready yet.

  2. 2

    Type the code

The app shows a short code that looks like ABCD-2345. Click Copy code, then click Approve in Rankhog. After that the app asks which workspace to join. Pick yours.

Two ways to finish this. If you have your own Rankhog login, approve the code yourself. If you do not, send the code to the person who shared this page and they approve it from their dashboard. Both work the same.

  3. 3

    Sign in to Reddit

The app opens Reddit. Log in the way you always do. Rankhog sees which account is logged in and connects it on its own. Nothing to copy. Nothing to type into Rankhog.

Logging in is optional. Rankhog can read Reddit without it. You only need to log in to post, comment, reply, vote, or join a subreddit.

That is it. The account now belongs to your workspace, and your team can use it. Leave the app open when you want the account available.

The safest way to set this up

Reddit trusts an account that always shows up from the same place. Follow these four rules and your account stays healthy.

  • One Reddit account per computer

One account on one computer is the safest setup and the fastest one. That computer becomes the home of that account, and Reddit sees the same place every time.

  • Use your own internet

Your home or office connection is the best one. Turn any VPN off. Reddit then sees a real person in a real place, which is exactly what you are.

  • Log in with an email and a password

Right now that works best inside the app. If you only use Google to log in to Reddit, open Reddit settings and add an email and a password first.

  • Every teammate connects one account

Each person on your team can connect their own Reddit account on their own computer. The more accounts your team connects, the more Rankhog can do without leaning on any single account.

Send them this page. That is all they need.

You can do more, but you do not have to

Rankhog can do more than the four rules above. Several accounts on one computer, proxies, and made up computer profiles all work. None of them is needed, and none of them is safer. If you followed the four rules, you are set and you can stop reading here.

Several Reddit accounts on one computer

One install can run up to five browsers at the same time. Each one is its own browser with its own Reddit login, so the accounts never mix. It works, and some teams use it. One account per computer is still safer, because browsers on the same computer share the same internet connection.

Use a proxy

Each browser can go out through its own proxy. Rankhog handles http, https, and socks5 proxies. You can make the browser match the proxy location, so the time zone and the language come from where the proxy comes out. A switch stops the browser if the proxy stops working, so nothing quietly falls back to your own connection. Your own home internet still beats any proxy, so only do this if you know why you need it.

Give a browser a different computer

The app can build a computer for a browser: a mac laptop, a windows laptop, a windows desktop, or a linux desktop. It sets things like the screen size, the time zone, and the language. Your first browser does not get one, on purpose. It uses your real computer, which is the most honest thing it can do.

Proxies and made up computers stay on your computer. Rankhog never sees them. They live in a file on that machine, and passwords go into that computer's own secure storage.

Installing

Windows says it protected your computer

Click More info, then Run anyway. The file is safe. We have not bought the Windows signature yet, so Windows warns about it the first time.

My Mac will not open Rankhog

Open your Applications folder, hold the Control key, click Rankhog, then click Open. Say yes once and your Mac remembers it.

I do not know which file to pick

Pick the card that matches your computer. Mac for a MacBook or an iMac. Windows for most work laptops. Linux for everything else.

The Linux file is a zip and nothing happens

Unzip it first. Then run the Rankhog file inside the new folder. If it will not start, right click it, open Properties, and allow it to run as a program.

How do I get new versions

Mac and Windows update on their own. On Linux, come back to this page and download the zip again when you want the newest one.

Connecting the app

I cannot find the code

Open Rankhog on your computer and look at the first screen. The code has eight characters and looks like ABCD-2345. Click Copy code so you do not mistype it.

The code does not work

Codes run out after a few minutes. Go back to the app, ask for a fresh code, and use the new one right away.

The app says it is waiting

Leave it open. It checks in on its own every few seconds and moves on by itself. There is nothing else to click.

I do not have a Rankhog login

You do not need one. Send the code to the person who shared this page. They approve it from their dashboard and you carry on in the app.

I picked the wrong workspace

Ask the workspace owner to open Rankhog settings, find your computer under Browsers, and click Revoke. Then open the app again and pair it with a fresh code.

Logging in to Reddit

Logging in with Google does not work

Use an email and a password instead. In Reddit, open Settings, then Account, and add an email and a password. Then use those in the app.

Rankhog does not see my account

Stay logged in and leave the app open. Rankhog checks again on its own. If nothing shows up after a minute, click Refresh in the app.

Reddit asks me for a code

Check your email or your authenticator app and type the code in the same window. Reddit does this the first time it sees a new browser.

The wrong account showed up

Inside the app, go to Reddit and log out, then log back in with the account you want. Rankhog reads whichever account is logged in.

Reddit keeps logging me out

Leave the app open while you work, and use your normal internet with any VPN off. Reddit signs people out when the connection keeps changing.

Do I have to log in at all

No. Reading and research work without it. You only need to log in to post, comment, reply, vote, or join a subreddit.

Still stuck? Ask the person who sent you this page. They can see your computer and your account in Rankhog, and they can start the setup over for you.
