r/melbourne rules, stats, and what to post

Talkin' Melbourne: Let's keep discussion based around Melbourne and things that affect us. Avoid questions about things that could easily be asked in, say, /r/relationshipadvice or /r/buildmeapc. * No federal politics unless it's about how it affects Melbourne more specifically. * This includes content related in any way to the middle east. News from mainstream news outlets about happening in Melbourne are allowed but comments will be locked.

No Duplicate Posts: Check the sub for your story before you submit it. If a post is there then please vote and comment in that discussion. Similar stories will be removed. Do not delete and repost your own submissions without approval

No Hate Speech: Hate speech, discrimination, or jokes about race, gender, colour, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, or any other characteristic are strictly prohibited. This includes slurs, derogatory language, threats, harassment, personal attacks, bullying, and any form of abusive behavior. Moderators will remove such content without exception. This subreddit aims to be a welcoming and inclusive space. Report violations to moderators immediately. Anonymity does not excuse abusive behavior

Be Respectful: Be nice to each other and respectful of other people. This doesn't mean don't argue, it doesn't mean don't bring up controversial topics, it just means keep it relatively civil. We like a heated discussion, but we'll put a stop to any malicious arguments. This stuff is kind of subjective. The moderators will attempt to keep discussions civil with warnings before locking threads, removing posts/comments or banning users if it's getting out of hand

No Witch-hunts: Your post/comment has been removed as it violates the subreddit rules against targeting individuals or groups, which can lead to harassment and the spread of false information. Additionally, Reddit's content policy prohibits the display of personal information. If the situation involves illegal activity or poses a threat to someone's safety, you are encouraged to report it to proper authorities such as the police. Additionally, you can contact relevant support services for assistance.

Missing Person versus Stalkers: All posts for missing people must be a link to the Vic Pol alert. No other personal contact information should be provided.

Spreading fake news: Misinformation, disinformation, spreading conspiracy theories and fearmongering, especially on breaking news events, will be removed. To avoid this rule, always provide a link to a source from a reputable news outlet. Repeated violations will result in bans.

No surveys, research, petitions or campaigns: We're flattered that you'd like to share your surveys, research opportunities, petitions, or campaigns with our subreddit! Unfortunately, the volume of these we get can mean they are not well-received by the community. You're welcome to post a link in the Daily Thread (which you'll find pinned at the top of the subreddit, and gets replaced every day) once or twice, but please refrain from spamming it there every day.

No Low Effort Posts: All posts must demonstrate effort and contribute to meaningful discussion relevant to the community. Low-effort posts that lack substance, context, or new insights will be removed. This includes but is not limited to: - "Shit parking" posts and simplistic complaint-based content - Rants, or posts with minimal information. - Overly repetitive topics already discussed - Dating - Moving to Melbourne - Memes Post in the [daily discussion](/r/Melbourne/about/sticky)

There aren't enough rule slots: - Homelessness posts are not allowed due to exploitation risks; redirect to verified resources. - Self-generating or promotional traffic aimed at driving external engagement is prohibited. - Keep it legal - Artificial karma-boosting schemes bypassing subreddit limits are prohibited. - Moderator abuse is not allowed. - Using partial censoring to bypass rules or filters is strictly prohibited. - Posts around the Israel/Palestine conflict are not allowed in the subreddit

No promoting Apps/Websites: We do not allow app/website self-promotion, including promotions framed as supporting a local developer. The growth of AI-assisted development tools resulted in a significant increase in similar submissions.
