Rule summary

  • In order to post or comment here, you must not identify primarily as a cisgender man.: We are LGBTQ+ positive and explicitly welcome trans women, non-binary, agender, and genderqueer folks. Trans men are welcome to engage or not engage based on their individual comfort level with this space. Please read our full statement here: https://reddit.com/r/adhdwomen/comments/yqbqa1/for_the_men_lurking_here/ivqqskf/ We do occasionally allow male family members seeking advice regarding their daughters or relatives with ADHD with mod permission.
  • Posts and comments must involve ADHD.: Posts and comments should be related to ADHD in some way. Posts that are deemed extremely off-topic will be removed at moderators' discretion. (Please note that we have recently declared a moratorium on yelling posts, as they received a number of reports and were difficult to moderate, if this happens to apply to your post.)
  • Do not disparage other users' symptoms & treatment or encourage illegal and/or improper use of drugs: Do not disparage anyone's symptoms, discourage mainstream and prescribed treatment for ADHD. Personal stories, anecdotes, and opinions such as "I don't believe in X type of treatment" or "I don't have Y symptom" are not allowed. Although certain substances (e.g. marijuana) are legal in some places, they are not legal everywhere. Comments that endorse drugs that are illegal in some places, and/or encourage improper/off-label use of prescription or over the counter meds are not allowed.
  • Do not advertise products or solicit research participants.: Advertisements & solicitations are promotions of and requests for interaction with anything you or someone you know has a stake in, be it yourself, a product, group, project, service, event, or social media. Cross-posting from subs you mod, placing referral links/affiliate codes, and stealth marketing break this rule. Research or survey requests also fall under this rule.
  • Discussions must be civil and criticism must be useful and constructive.: Name-calling, doxxing, harassment, cross-posting to stir up drama, rules lawyering, using multiple accounts to avoid bans, and venting or speculating about named forums or people, are not allowed. Derogatory or disparaging comments regarding age, disability, religion, political affiliation, race, or LGBTQIA+ identity are also not allowed.
  • This forum isn't a substitute for professional medical/mental health advice, treatment, or diagnosis: Questions and discussions amongst peers about medication, symptoms, treatment, and diagnosis are allowed on r/adhdwomen. However, by participating here you acknowledge that no one on r/adhdwomen is able to diagnose, treat, or prescribe based on your/their participation in this forum, or your/their personal anecdotes & opinions. No one here knows what your provider will ultimately diagnose you with, prescribe to you, or what treatment they'll recommend.
  • Discussions on self-harm, suicide, and/or acute/serious medical/mental health crises aren't allowed: Please seek immediate assistance from qualified professionals and actual crisis lines when experiencing these issues, rather than our community of unqualified peers.
  • This forum will not facilitate requests for legal, insurance, or procedural advice.: Requests legal, insurance, or procedural advice.
  • Posts about NSFW topics (like sex and libido) must be flaired NSFW or are subject to removal: General text posts about sex or libido are allowed here, but they must be flaired. If you would like to engage with a smaller community about these topics, check out /r/ADHDWomenAfterDark.
  • Please do not crosspost to other communities.: This is a space meant for support, and we do not want posts from vulnerable people ending up on subreddits intended to cause drama, make fun of people, or otherwise belittle others.
  • No AI content.: We do not allow ChatGPT output or AI images of any kind. Review the [full details](https://www.reddit.com/r/adhdwomen/comments/1kiy1fv/new_rules_banning_ai_output_and_increased_ai/).

What r/adhdwomen Is For

This community is a space for women to find support and discuss living with ADHD. The first rule, "In order to post or comment here, you must not identify primarily as a cisgender man.", makes clear that cisgender men may not post or comment without moderator permission, though the community is LGBTQ+ positive and explicitly welcomes trans women, non-binary, agender, and genderqueer folks. Trans men may engage based on their own comfort. Male family members seeking advice regarding daughters or relatives with ADHD may be allowed with moderator permission. The community is a peer support space, not a substitute for professional medical, mental health, or legal advice.

Rules That Matter Before Posting

The rule "Do not advertise products or solicit research participants." is the most important one for any founder or marketer to understand. It bans promotions of and requests for interaction with anything you or someone you know has a stake in, including a product, group, project, service, event, or social media. It also bans cross-posting from subs you mod, referral links, affiliate codes, stealth marketing, and research or survey requests. The rule "No AI content." bans ChatGPT output and AI images of any kind. The rule "Please do not crosspost to other communities." exists to protect vulnerable people from having their posts end up on subreddits that cause drama or make fun of people. The rule "Do not disparage other users' symptoms & treatment or encourage illegal and/or improper use of drugs." protects peer discussion from judgment and unsafe advice.

What To Post

A good post here is a genuine, personal contribution about living with ADHD as a woman or as someone the community welcomes. It must be directly related to ADHD, civil, and constructive. If you are a founder doing respectful Reddit marketing, the only honest path is to participate as a community member first, sharing real experiences or asking honest questions, and never linking to or mentioning your product. There is no safe promotional post shape here. The rules ban advertising, solicitations, referral links, and stealth marketing outright. Your value comes from being a helpful peer, not from promoting anything.

What To Avoid

Avoid anything that breaks "Do not advertise products or solicit research participants.", including ads, referral links, affiliate codes, stealth marketing, cross-posting from subs you moderate, and survey or research requests. Avoid AI content entirely, as the rule "No AI content." bans ChatGPT output and AI images. Do not crosspost to other communities. Do not disparage other users' symptoms or treatment, and do not encourage illegal or improper use of drugs. Avoid posts about self-harm, suicide, or acute medical or mental health crises, as the rule "Discussions on self-harm, suicide, and/or acute/serious medical/mental health crises aren't allowed" directs people to qualified professionals and crisis lines instead. Avoid seeking legal, insurance, or procedural advice. Avoid off-topic posts, since "Posts and comments must involve ADHD." requires a direct connection to ADHD.
