Rule summary

  • Be kind: Please do not personally attack or be hurtful towards others. Many of us are learning about Calorie Counting and what might seem easy and obvious to you might not to others. If you don't like a food or it's not your preference for whatever reason, please refrain from commenting. Please do not food shame.
  • No Al, low effort posts, spamming posts.: Unless exceptional (use of Al for disability or language barriers, etc) we do NOT allow posts or comments made by Al, written by Al, or posted from Al accounts. No Al apps, no promoting or encouraging Al usage.
  • No discussion of eating disorders: We do not allow discussion of either extremely low calorie diets or eating disorders, we also don't allow calorie needs assessments for people who are underweight and need to be under the care of a physician. Reddit is not the place for medical advice. If you think you are in need of support with disordered eating. Please check out /r/EatingDisorders/ for more resources or places for discussion of these topics.
  • No Health Police: Comments against things such as "processed" food, seed oils, "real vs. fake" food, carbs, etc. are unhelpful and untrue, and will be removed.
  • No dismissive comments: Users post their food here because they want help learning how to count and estimate calories. Comments such as "too many to count", "no use tracking", "just start over tomorrow", etc. are unhelpful and invalidating and do not benefit posters. Please refrain from making these comments.
  • No inappropriate advice to minors: No making meal plans or giving calorie counting advice to minors. TDEE calculators are built for adults. There are a variety of factors that influence the nutritional needs of growing bodies and these conversations are best had with someones doctor, rather than Reddit. For more information on nutrition for teens, visit: https://www.myplate.gov/life-stages/teens
  • No product promotion: Do not post (or link to) products, websites, channels, or subreddits you are promoting or thinking of creating. This includes AI bots or using AI to formulate answers to people. This also includes research on potential products.
  • No posting studies or surveys: Please don't submit any studies or surveys of subreddit members
  • No discussion of subreddit moderation: Please send all concerns or comments to the mod team directly. We're happy to help!
  • No call out posts: Please do not make any posts or comments about anyone's health or medical status. You can reach out to the person directly or report the post if it violates a rule.

Works well

  • Post a picture of your own meal and ask the community to help you estimate the calories, showing you are learning alongside everyone else.
  • Answer a question about how to count calories for a complex dish, sharing a clear and helpful breakdown without promoting any app or product.
  • Share a simple tip from your own experience, such as how you estimate portions when eating out, as long as it does not involve a product or link.

Avoid

  • Do not post or link to products, websites, channels, or subreddits you are promoting or thinking of creating, including AI bots or research on potential products.
  • Do not submit any studies or surveys of subreddit members.
  • Do not use AI to generate posts or comments, or to formulate answers for other users.
  • Avoid any discussion of eating disorders, extremely low calorie diets, or calorie needs assessments for people who are underweight.
  • Do not make dismissive comments such as telling someone to just start over tomorrow or that their food is too many to count.
  • Do not post comments policing health, such as arguments against processed food, seed oils, or carbs.

What To Post

A good post here for a founder doing respectful Reddit marketing is one that does not market at all. The rules ban product promotion, links, surveys, and AI content, so the only safe way to participate is to share genuine, human help. You could post a picture of your own food and ask for help estimating calories, or answer someone else's question about how to count a tricky meal. The goal is to earn trust by being a real member of the community, not to drive traffic or collect data. Keep every comment helpful and free of judgment about food choices.

What To Avoid

Do not post or link to products, websites, channels, or subreddits you are promoting or thinking of creating, including AI bots or research on potential products. Do not submit any studies or surveys of subreddit members. Do not use AI to generate posts or comments, or to formulate answers for other users. Avoid any discussion of eating disorders, extremely low calorie diets, or calorie needs assessments for people who are underweight. Do not make dismissive comments such as telling someone to just start over tomorrow or that their food is too many to count. Do not post comments policing health, such as arguments against processed food, seed oils, or carbs. Do not make meal plans or give calorie counting advice to minors.
