Rule summary

  • Don't Be a Jerk: Remember the human on the other side of the screen. When talking to someone you might want to ask yourself "Would I say it to the person's face?". Treat everyone with respect; it's possible to get your point across or plain disagree without being rude. Being a jerk includes but is not limited to: personal attacks, racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, derogatory or dehumanizing language, including insults and general incivility. We also don't allow bashing or making fun of other subs.
  • No Soliciting or asking for/sending copyright material: Do not solicit or ask for donations or funding of any kind. Use subreddits specific for this purpose, such as r/Assistance. Posts of this nature will be removed and users permanently banned. Reddit rules prevent the sharing of copyright material without the owner's permission. Posts or comments asking for or offering copyright material will be deleted and repeat offenders banned.
  • No Spam: Spam will be removed and users placed on a permanent ban. This includes AI/bot accounts.
  • No Facebook/Instagram-Style Content: Personal photos and videos are not allowed as standalone posts and will be removed. Memes and other non-personal photos (e.g. infographics) are allowed. However, low-quality memes (including memes that have pictures of your children) fall under personal photos and will be removed as well (along with reposts).
  • No Self-Promotion/Advertising/Surveys/Product Testing: Do not make posts to generate followers for your Youtube channel or your blog. We also do NOT allow use of this sub for product testing e.g. apps or self-promotion/advertising, sharing of discount codes/vouchers or market research via thinly veiled parenting posts. Your post will be removed and you may be banned. We aren't allowing academic surveys at this time.
  • No Medical Advice: Discussing medical topics is allowed, including asking others for their personal experience. That said, Reddit is NOT a source of medical advice. Please contact a local healthcare provider if you require precise and/or immediate medical guidance.
  • No Anti-vax Misinformation or Support: Discussion of different ideas is great, but the anti-vaccine movement thrives on the spread of disinformation. We will not be a place for that disinformation to be repeated. Any anti-vaccine statements will be removed and users banned at mods' discretion.
  • No Brigading or Trolling: Users who don't regularly participate in this sub as new parents and come to argue hot button issues will be banned immediately without warning.
  • Relationship Posts must be in the daily discussion thread: All relationship posts must be posted in the weekly discussion thread. This includes non-romantic relationships, such as with your in-laws.
  • No Dirty Diaper Pics: If you have questions about your baby's poop, contact your pediatrician
  • No posts about Circumcision: Posts where the primary topic is about circumcision are not allowed.
  • No posts about undiagnosed/suspected autism.: This includes directly asking if your baby is autistic, listing "symptoms" and asking for comments, or asking if other people have had similar experiences to you and it turned out that their baby was autistic. If you have concerns about autism, please speak to a medical professional.
  • Do not attempt to evade rules with reposts: If you attempt to repost a post that was removed for rule violations, without making substantive changes that bring the post in compliance with the rules, you will be temporarily banned. Repeat violators will be permanently banned.
  • No posts asking about vaccine experiences or whether you should vaccinate your child: We no longer allow posts asking for experiences of how babies have handled xyz vaccines, what reactions others have experienced and whether you should get xyz vaccine for your baby. This sub (and other parenting subs) are full of these posts - please use the search tool, and direct any questions about whether a vaccine is right for your baby to a medical professional. Unfortunately, these posts create a lot of work to moderate and invite antivax trolls into our sub.
  • No standalone posts seeking must have products: We will no longer be approving standalone posts seeking must have baby or registry products. Please use the search function.

Works well

  • Share a specific, non-promotional tip from your own experience as a new parent, with no link or product mention.
  • Post a helpful, non-personal infographic about a general parenting topic, as long as it does not advertise anything.
  • Answer questions in the comments of other posts with your genuine experience, without mentioning your product or brand.
  • Ask a real question about the parenting experience itself, not about products or vaccines, to start a genuine discussion.

Avoid

  • Do not ask for donations or funding of any kind, as the rule "No Soliciting or asking for/sending copyright material" says those posts will be removed and users permanently banned.
  • Do not use AI or bot accounts, because the rule "No Spam" bans them outright.
  • Do not upload personal photos or videos of your children as standalone posts, as the rule "No Facebook/Instagram-Style Content" removes them.
  • Do not post about circumcision, as the rule "No posts about Circumcision" bans the topic entirely.
  • Do not post about undiagnosed or suspected autism, as the rule "No posts about undiagnosed/suspected autism." directs you to a medical professional instead.
  • Do not post dirty diaper pictures, because the rule "No Dirty Diaper Pics" tells you to contact your pediatrician instead.

What r/NewParents Is For

This community is a place to share thoughts, questions, support, and tips about being a new parent to a young child. People come here to talk about the real experience of parenting, to ask questions, and to give each other support. The rules make clear that it is a space for new parents themselves, not for marketers or researchers to drop in and use.

Rules That Matter Before Posting

The rule that matters most for you is "No Self-Promotion/Advertising/Surveys/Product Testing". It says you cannot make posts to generate followers, test products, share discount codes, or do market research disguised as parenting posts. The rule "No Spam" is also a hard line, and it specifically bans AI and bot accounts. The rule "No Soliciting or asking for/sending copyright material" bans any request for donations or funding. The rule "No Facebook/Instagram-Style Content" bans personal photos and videos as standalone posts, which means you cannot build rapport by posting pictures of your own family. The rule "No standalone posts seeking must have products" blocks a common angle where a founder might ask what products people love, then jump in with their own. The rule "No posts asking about vaccine experiences or whether you should vaccinate your child" keeps that entire topic off the table for engagement.

What To Post

The honest answer is that a good post here for a founder looks like a genuine parenting question or tip, with zero promotion attached. You can share a tip that helped you as a new parent, or ask a question about the parenting experience itself, as long as you do not tie it to your product. The rule "No Self-Promotion/Advertising/Surveys/Product Testing" is broad, so your post must read like it comes from a parent, not a marketer. If you have a relationship question, the rule "Relationship Posts must be in the daily discussion thread" says it must go in the weekly discussion thread, not as a standalone post. Infographics are allowed under the rule "No Facebook/Instagram-Style Content", so a helpful, non-personal infographic about parenting could work, but it must not promote your product.

What To Avoid

You will get removed or banned if you break the rule "No Self-Promotion/Advertising/Surveys/Product Testing" by trying to generate followers, share discount codes, or test products. You will get banned if you break the rule "No Spam" by using AI or bot accounts. You will get banned if you break the rule "No Soliciting or asking for/sending copyright material" by asking for donations or funding. You will get removed if you break the rule "No Facebook/Instagram-Style Content" by posting personal photos or videos as standalone posts. You will get removed if you break the rule "No standalone posts seeking must have products" by asking for product recommendations. You will get banned if you break the rule "No Anti-vax Misinformation or Support" by spreading disinformation. You will get banned if you break the rule "No Brigading or Trolling" by coming in to argue hot button issues without being a regular participant. You will get removed if you break the rule "No posts asking about vaccine experiences or whether you should vaccinate your child". You will get removed if you break the rule "No posts about Circumcision". You will get removed if you break the rule "No posts about undiagnosed/suspected autism." You will get removed if you break the rule "No Dirty Diaper Pics". You will get temporarily or permanently banned if you break the rule "Do not attempt to evade rules with reposts" by reposting removed content without substantive changes.
